2013 FAQ's

What Is Centre Gives and why is it a good opportunity for our community?

Centre Gives is a unique 36-hour online-only giving event in which people who care about the future of Centre County can log on to CentreGives.org and donate to any of dozens of participating nonprofit organizations that serve Centre County, with the added incentive that Centre Foundation is providing pro-rated matching funds of $100,000 and other cash prizes!

When is Centre Gives?

Centre Gives 2013 begins at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22 and ends at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. Only donations made during this time will be counted for Centre Gives.

What is the history of Centre Gives?

Centre Gives was created by Centre Foundation in 2012. In its inaugural year, Centre Gives raised about $525,000 ($415,000 raised plus $110,000 in matching funds and prizes provided by Centre Foundation) for 74 local nonprofits!

How does the match work?

Centre Foundation’s $100,000 match will be pro-rated, meaning that each organization will receive a percentage of the $100,000 based on how much it raises. If the total of all eligible gifts raised during Centre Gives is $400,000 then the pro-rated match will be $.25 on the dollar. Using this example, an organization that raised $10,000 out of a total of $400,000 raised would receive an additional $2,500 from Centre Foundation’s matching funds.

What organizations are eligible for this event?

To participate in Centre Gives, an organization must:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that files a 990 with the IRS.
  • Serve Centre County out of a local office/home.
  • Agree to use all money raised during Centre Gives – donations, matching funds and prize money – to benefit residents of Centre County exclusively.
  • Apply to, and be approved by, Centre Foundation and sign an agreement.
  • Fill out a profile on GuideStar.org.

Who can donate and is there a minimum or maximum gift?

Any individual or business may donate. A nonprofit may not donate to itself. The minimum gift amount is $25; if a gift of more than $10,000 is given, only the first $10,000 will be matched. Donors who make multiple gifts to the same organization with the same credit card will be counted as one donor for the prizes. Donors who donate to different organizations will count as separate unique donors for the prizes.

What forms of donations are accepted? Are they tax-deductible?

All donations must be made via credit or debit card. No gifts from checks, cash or stock will be accepted for this giving event. Donations are tax deductible and irrevocable (donations will not be refunded) and will be for the use of your chosen charity. Tax receipts will be sent to donors through email.

Is donating through CentreGives.org safe?

Yes. Centre Foundation has partnered with KIMBIA to provide a secure online donation form. All donations made using KIMBIA's donation forms use industry-leading Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to protect your information and provide a safe and secure environment for online donors. Donor information will be used to complete the transaction and will be shared only with the charity to which the donation is made, unless the donor chooses to remain anonymous. We will not sell, trade, or rent your information to other individuals or organizations.

How much of the donation will go to the nonprofit?

There is a 3% credit card transaction fee for Centre Gives. The amount of matching funds earned will be determined by the amount raised before credit card fees are taken out. Centre Foundation takes no fees and sponsors Centre Gives as a community service.

Search for Organizations

If the organization you are searching for is not listed, they are not participating in Centre Gives. Please encourage them to contact the Centre Foundation so that they can participate in the future. In the meantime, take a look at the list of participating organizations to see if one of them fits your giving needs.
